Dr Salwa Woodroffe ARAS
Painting has been a hobby of Salwa's since her early childhood. However, in 1997 she decided to retire from her academic career of 23 years and devote her time fully to advancing her painting. Since then, Salwa has studied fine art at the Wollongong TAFE, attended a number of short art courses at the Sydney Art School and many workshops by a variety of prominent artists. She has had many solo and group exhibitions. Salwa has been a finalist in major Australian National art exhibitions including twice in Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, Three times in Flaw-National Contemporary Watercolour Art Prize; and National Capital Art Prize. Also, she has received numerous first-overall, second-overall art prizes and more than 40 awards including first, second, third, highly commended and people's choice awards. In addition, Salwa's paintings have been published in the International Contemporary Artist, 2014, Vol IX and contributing seven articles for the Australia Artist magazine about her painting’s techniques.
Salwa paints in the style of an impressionist realist. She loves to paint from plein air or life. Her portfolio includes a range of portraits, landscapes, seascapes and figurative works. While she has used a number of different painting mediums, her favourite is oil colour. Salwa is on the committee of the Friends of Wollongong Art Gallery, member of Oatley 101 Art Society, St George art Society and Kiama Art Society.
