Vivienne McDonald FRAS - Councillor
Small beginnings as a child, my beloved coloured pencils sparked a lifetime of the mellow joy art can bring.
I started work as a textile designer which I continued freelance for 40 years, painting designs for fashion and home textiles. Working part time to raise a family some interests included watercolour, life drawing, leadlight, woodwork, sewing...
In 2011 I began an oil class at the Royal Art Society with my sister, Debra Balloch. Our spirited teacher Joe Penn, FRAS, taught and encouraged in a way that changed us fundamentally. Highly commended in our first exhibition, the match was struck. 2013 we were accepted as Exhibiting Members and 2015 were both delighted to be elevated to Associate Members of the RAS .
I am a member of the Lane Cove Art Society and the Inner Circle painting group, have entered various exhibitions, being fortunate to often have my work acknowledged.
I enjoy drawing and the challenge of watercolour but love the deliciousness of oils. Impressionism inspires me and I’m striving to make landscape and still life in that loose painterly way, attempting to weave canvas, light and soul… slowly undoing my years of highly structured work. It will never cease to be thrilling.
